Bristol groups have got together to hold an exciting one day event right in the heart of Bristol to encourage people to make their money count.

With the launch of the new Bristol Pound imminent, and with a seemingly ever increasing number of banking scandals, the bank bailouts, international tax evasion and the Euro crisis the conference is a timely chance to help people and groups learn more about how to make money work better.

Make Your Money Count will explore what it means for money to be ‘ethical’ and show how money can be used to make a positive impact, such as through local investment and ethical banking, sustainability and fair trade.

Part of National Ethical Investment week and Bristol Festival of Ideas, the event is being organised by leaders in the ethical finance arena, including Triodos Bank, Bristol Credit Union, Shared Interest and the Ecumenical Council for Corporate Responsibility. Bristol is a centre of excellence in sustainability – runners up for the title of European Green Capital and a leading Fairtrade City.

Amongst the many contributors to the event, the keynote speakers are Sarah Pennells, founder of SavvyWoman.co.uk and author of 'Green Money' and James Vaccaro, Triodos Bank and UKSIF.

Aimed at investors, students, businesses, IFAs, faith groups and interested consumers, Make Your Money Count will cover a wide range of topics through talks, workshops and stands including Local investment and banking, , Ethical investment and pension options, Ethical and mutual banking options, Transparency and International trade and tax justice.

Council leader Simon Cook will be opening the event at the Council House. Cllr Cook said: “ As a hub for sustainable business and with many ethical finance organisations based here, including Triodos Bank, Bristol Credit Union and the Bristol Pound, Bristol is the ideal place for this event and I'm sure it will attract a great deal of interest."
