Bristol, European Green Capital Award Finalist!

Bristol is through to the final of the European Green Capital Award 2015 and is in a strong position to win!bid-2015

We’ve been shortlisted as one of four finalists for the award. If our bid is successful, it will give us the chance to be recognised on an international stage for the work we do in greening our city.

Bristol has been placed first or second in each of 12 categories in which we were asked to submit information for the initial stage of the bid, putting us in a stronger position than ever before.

However, we know that there is more that Bristol can do to be a greener place and we believe the award will help accelerate us on that journey.

Next, we must convince a European jury that Bristol deserves to win the Award. We will make a presentation in May in Brussels and the announcement of the winner will be made on June 14.

About the Award

Each year, one city is crowned European Green Capital to recognise its environmental achievements, future commitments and ability to inspire others.

about-headers

The European Green Capital Award was set up to reward cities achieving high environmental standards and encourage them to commit to further environmental improvement and sustainable development.

The winning city has to demonstrate a vision for the future which will inspire other cities to take similar action. And it needs to be a replicable model, promoting best practice to all other European cities.

The benefits for Bristol will be manifold. Not only would it attract inward investment and visitors to the city, but it would reinforce our reputation as a leading sustainable city in the UK and Europe.

It would also give Bristol a platform from which to lobby hard on behalf of businesses for more low carbon job opportunities and lead to an exciting programme of events in 2015 logowhich everybody can get involved in.
