PRESS RELEASE – April 2011

'The Noise’ 2011 in North Bristol - 10th Anniversary Year!

'The Noise' is about action.  It is about showing the love of Jesus in communities across North Bristol through acts of service, love and generosity, and this year The Noise is celebrating its 10th year of doing this!

On the May Day Bank Holiday weekend (Saturday 30thApril – Monday 2nd May 2011) around 600 volunteers from local churches across Bristol will again be communicating the heart of the good news through community transformation projects, senior citizens’ banquets, sports activities, family fun afternoons and BBQ’s – serving in the community and showing God’s love in very practical ways.

Ten years ago, 'North Bristol Noise' started when a few local churches got together to see how they could pool their resources together to organise a weekend of serving the community.  In the last 10 years, The Noise has continued to grow in size, number of volunteers, and influence.  It's an opportunity for Christians from all backgrounds and churches to serve in the urban estates of North Bristol and partner with local church.

The Noise is not a 'one off event' because the vision is always looking to inspire sustainable initiatives and encourage the ongoing work in a fresh way. Many of the projects that run will continue throughout the year - such as kids clubs, sports activities, and events for senior citizens. The Noise is a great way of promoting these ongoing activities and developing relationships with people who would like to access this ongoing provision.

In 2011, The Noise will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary andbe expanding in geographical area.  The weekend will be jam-packed full of things to do for the whole community.  There will be practical projects involving anything from teams working in the gardens of vulnerable adults/lone parent families, to massive rubbish clearance, to painting and maintenance in local schools.

As well as the practical projects there will be 7 Noise Family Fun Afternoons, including inflatable games, face painting, and a roadshow.  There will be 3 Community BBQ’s, 3 Senior Citizens’ Banquets, Sports Activities including football coaching and tournaments, and Car Washing. AND, everything that happens over the whole weekend is completely FREE.

Louise, a local resident & Noise volunteer, says of her experience in 2010; 'It's not just about being part of the church, it's about being part of the whole community... I had people come up to me who I didn't know and say “thank you, you are doing such a great job. It's nice to know that there are people who care and are willing to do these things for our community,” . . . I even got my children involved, which really made them appreciate their lives . . . It's really hard work, and I was shattered by the end of it, but if I'd been asked to go and do it all again the next day, I would have been there.'

The Noise is excited to partner with local churches and community organisations in North Bristol and see God work through us as we work together.
