Spring greetings to you from this part of the world, where change is in the air and on the ground. Things have also been developing within and through the ministry as we have begun a New Year with many amazing opportunities to partner in the work of the gospel and see Jesus change lives. Please have a look below, praise God for what He has done and lift up the things ahead of us in prayer.
Men's Breakfast impacts 70
On Feb 5th WSM Bristol leader Akeel Yousaf spoke at the partnership event with MenUnited in Bath. A great mix of Christians and not-yet believers were impacted and encouraged by Akeel's life story and challenge.
Super Bowl Screening
WSM Bath joined in the fun by partnering on a game party that reached out to adults and teenagers who watched the game on Sunday 6th February where relationships were developed.
Church partnerships in Bath
WSM Bath served Holy Trinity Combe Down on February 6th by leading part of 2 services and ministering to the children and youth with an active programme concentrating on freedom from guilt.
The team also staged 3 vision forums for churches to explore sports ministry and prepare for opportunities approaching through the 2012 Olympic Games. Many church leaders or representatives seemed inspired and new church rep leaders have since joined the WSM Bath ministry team.
Five -a-side Outreach Everywhere!
Both WSM Bristol and Bath recently reached out through football tournaments. Fierce yet appropriate competition was combined with great relationship building and intentional personal testimony based talks. Bath ran their monthly 'Kick Off' version on the 7th February and 7th March and piloted their new 'Teen Kick Off' in both months as well. Bristol staged their first on March 29th. Over 110 adults and teens were reached with the gospel through the tournaments.
Golf Ministry Begins
WSM Bath began their new golf ministry project called 'Driven'. The monthly 9 hole tournament started small in March with players of all standards encouraged to invite guest friends to play and share. This event followed on from the MenUnited breakfast in town. As we enter into summer, hopes are high of this becoming a very popular event.
From Feb 18-20, leaders from WSM Bristol, Newham and Bath and partner leaders from Barbados were trained and shared 2011 plans with one another during our Core Leaders Retreat in Wick. It was a tremendous time of vision, learning, encouragement, planning and prayer.
Young Leaders Programme
Feb 24th saw the expansion of our young leaders mentoring programme in Bath and Frome when teenagers came to be equipped in aspects of serving on sports camp, working with children, sports coaching/officiating and team building. These leaders are due to serve on forthcoming sports camps and receive 2 on 1 mentoring from WSM local leaders.
Please could you pray for ministry projects and opportunities that are coming up:
- Get Sported Children's camps in Bath and South bristol - 11-13 April, 160 children to be impacted.
- Get Sported Children's camp in Frome - 18-20 April, 80 children to be impacted
- Wisdom and favour in preparing for a huge month of outreach in May (details to follow soon)
- Nairobi Sports Day - 16 April, Nairobi Kenya - 200 people to be reached through multi sports day.
Please also pray for wisdom and much needed finance as we produce extra training resources and process enquiries from groups of churches who are requesting assistance in establishing new Community Sports Teams.
We are really looking to increase prayer and intercession within the ministry - if you would like to pray regularly for us and receive specific prayer requests, could you email us to say so and we will furnish you with monthly details as well as any emergencies!
What a time it is to encourage churches to use sport to reach communities. The world and local economies are down, life for many is tough - yet many still play or watch sport as a release from all of that and because they love it. Join with us to use this great God given tool to share the love of Jesus with a world that so needs Him and is running out of time.
Thanks for standing with us - it's a busy time and a big year.
