Strategic thinking day for volunteers and paid workers lightsinvolved in urban mission

When: Sat 25th February 2012
Where: Easton Family Centre (formally Easton Christian Family Centre)
Price:  £10. Pre-booking essential for catering purposes.

The Bristol Christian Action Network (BCAN), ISR and the Church Urban Fund (CUF) are working together with churches in Bristol to develop a deeper and more effective engagement with our city. We would like to follow up on work already carried out by inviting you to join with us on Saturday 25th February 2012, 10.00-3.30 at Easton Family Centre. We want to explore how we can affect the social and political life of our city as a united church in Bristol. We will pick up on some national themes present in the church, look at responses being made to them in other cities and consider what this might mean for a united christian response to urban mission in Bristol.
The day will begin with a short presentation of the work to date, followed by theological reflection by Philip Nott (priest, EFC) together with a short act of worship. Mike Pears (tutor in Urban Mission at Bristol Baptist College) will engage with some current thinking about how cities work, especially around themes of power and marginalisation and how these relate to our discussion in Bristol.
Most importantly we would like this teaching and reflection to lead to some united action. Using supportive conversational framework we would like to enable participants in the day to think about poverty/power/the church and urban mission in a way which enables us to identify issues that concern us as a group and to discover how we might begin to facilitate change. we aim to get a few points for immediate action out of this process and to assist with moving them forward if requested to do so.
VENUE:Easton Family Centre (formally Easton Christian Family Centre), cost £10. Pre-booking essential for catering purposes.
