Fairtrade Producer visit: Agueda Ordenana, Fairtrade Honey Producer from Teustepe in Nicaragua will be visiting Bristol for Fairtrade Fortnight 2013. Her honey is sold by local co-operative, Essential. She will be visiting schools in Bristol and South Gloucestershire to explain the benefits of Fairtrade as well as teaching about life in Nicaragua. She will be meeting with local beekeepers to share ideas and practices on honey production and the plight of the bee.
She will also be speaking at the Fairtrade Business Awards ceremony and the International Women’s Day celebration on 8th March.
The visit is arranged through Bristol Link with Nicaragua.
Fairtrade Fortnight launch, Monday 25th Feb 11-12am, Lord Mayor's reception room. Leaders of the city will gather to welcome the Fairtrade producer to Bristol and sample Fairtrade honey biscuits and cakes made by local school children. A great photo opportunity to launch the Fortnight!
Fairtrade Business Awards will be the main event of the Fortnight. The Fairtrade Business Awards for the South West region are open for applications. The aim of the Awards is to increase sales of, and support for Fairtrade amongst businesses in the region, by promoting those businesses that support Fairtrade and encouraging others to do more
Awards will be given in the following categories:
Best Fairtrade Office
Best Fairtrade Retailer
Best Fairtrade Food Outlet
Best Fairtrade Accommodation
Best Fairtrade Suppliers
Best overall Fairtrade Business
The Awards ceremony will be held on Friday 8th March at the Colston Hall 12-2pm, and the Awards will be presented by entrepreneur and successful chef, Levi Roots.

Women, Honey and Chocolate!
An evening to celebrate Fairtrade chocolate, honey and remarkable women around the world. Chocolate tasting from Divine chocolate, the Fairtrade company 45% owned by cocoa farmers in Ghana, as well as talks, music and food, plus entry to the M Shed’s golden ticket Chocolate! exhibition.
