Nepal Thalassaemia Society needs help... URGENTLY
I think all of us would have by now heard of the earthquake that has devastated Nepal. As many of you know I run a life saving blood transfusion clinic in Kathmandu for numerous children with Bone Marrow disease who will die if they do not receive their treatment.
Our clinic was transfusing at the time of the quake and by some miracle our heroic nurse managed to get all the children out to the garden to safety…. and continue the transfusions through out the numerous after shocks.
Although our clinic was largely undamaged it is now becoming clear that many of our children who live in the epicenter area of Gorkha and Dhading have lost their homes.
We are still waiting to hear news of over 80 of our families.
Rishi and helpers are on their way there now to try and locate some of our families and offer them help.
Harimaya … my first patient at the clinic has lost her home that her family have spent all their lives building … they are now staying in the buffalo shed with what life stock they have left.
Sonya Bhatta aged 7 and Bimal Kumal, 14 years old have also lost their homes and are now in a tented community ….. we don’t know about their families as yet …..
This tragic situation is massively heightened due to these children needing fortnightly transfusions to survive ….. we have to get them to the capital and provide them with somewhere to stay to enable the continuation of their essential treatment.
Our clinic will re-open today and our heroic nurse is coming to carry out transfusions for all those that can make it …..
I am launching my appeal with the help and support of the UK Thalassemia Society to ask for YOUR support …. We desperately need funds to help with the following :
- Essential Blood … now in vey short supply….. THIS IS MOST URGENT
- Medicines that are now becoming scarce
- Blankets and clothing for those who have lost everything
- Accommodation, food, medical and hygiene products for patients who manage to reach us (they will have to stay in Ktm until they are able to travel freely again)
- Food … and cooking pots and pans so that people can cook at the clinic in relative safety
- Help for the families who have lost their homes …..I still have no idea just how many have lost their homes.
EVERY SINGLE PENNY that is raised will be sent directly to the Nepal Thalassaemia Account in Nepal …. Not one penny will be used for administration or any other costs …..
