Reflections from Mozambique

As part of our iNGM Internship programme, we give all the interns the opportunity of going on an overseas mission trip.  This year we've sent a team to work with Iris Ministries in Mozambique and another one to work with a local church in Majorca.  On their return, we asked all the interns involved, to reflect on their time abroad and we wanted to share with you some of Leanne’s thoughts as recorded in her blog.  I would urge you to take a few minutes to read it all, as it's a real testament to God's goodness and faithfulness.

"So, last month I had the most incredible time in Mozambique!  I spent two weeks in Maputo with some amazing people, witnessing some mind-blowing things.  We stayed on an Iris Ministries base in Zimpeto, which takes in children who need a loving home and the right kind of education and support.  Each of these kids were so precious!  They found so much joy in the smallest of things and were always incredibly happy and full of smiles and laughter.  They were all full of hope and joy, and were so filled with love and affection!

5 days, we travelled around different settlements in the Bush and preached the gospel to lots of unchurched people and to some who had never heard anything of God.  We went into places where spiritual warfare was ripe.  Witchcraft was not an uncommon thing and many places were filled with fear because of it.  One night in the bush, there was a definite change in the atmosphere.  The intensity could be felt all around and we all knew instantly that we were in for a crazy night!  That night, we found out that witch doctors had been sat in the middle of the church service, speaking out the names of demons over people.  We then knew that we had to just pray, pray and pray some more!!  It was so intense, but God was all over it!  After a while, a pastor spoke to the witch doctor and must have witnessed something of God, because she handed everything she owned (that was to do with witchcraft) over to the pastor and decided that she would give her life to Jesus!  That Sunday she was stood at the front of the church being welcomed in by the congregation! How good is God!?

So as you can probably tell, I had an amazing two weeks!  God transformed me through this journey and I came back with a burning desire to see more of God in my life and in the lives of others, because my gosh, God is flipping good!!"

It really is a life changing experience, seeing God provide in amazing ways, to experience another culture and to be stretched beyond anything you’ve previously experienced.  If you’ve been challenged by Leanne’s experience and are a singer, musician, dancer, worship leader, musical theatre performer or technician (aged 17-35) and want to explore whether God is calling you to be a part of iNGM, you can check out our website for more information, including an online Prospectus and application form or call us on 01454 414880 for a chat.
