Global Aware Update Nov-Dec

Dear Friends,

I have been so encouraged lately by the amount of people in my community doing all they can to support refugees. With 10's of millions currently displaced it is hard to know what we can do, not only to help them, but also to help many more who will soon be displaced if the global community does not address the underlying causes such as climate change, war, injustice, and extreme poverty.

I'm thankful for the many opportunities we have to give, act, and pray through some amazing people and charities. I hope you find the following pointers helpful, and put the 6th February in your diary for Global Aware 2016 which will bring together experts in various fields to address pertinent issues surround global conflict.

Prayers

1. The Evangelical Alliance encourage us to pray for refugees as part of their 5 ways the church can respond to the refugee crisis.

2. Pray for the work of Christian Aid and its partner organisations around the world using their latest prayer diary. In each diary you will find daily requests to pray to or thank God, a weekly prayer, verse or thought that could be used in church intercessions, and weekly references to the Bible for reflection. Download here.

3. Us Lent course for 2016 explores migration and the movement of people, with stories from around the world. 'Migration and Movement' looks at economic migration, refugees, human
trafficking and climate change. See the study course online by clicking here.

Actions

1. CAFOD are encouraging us to call on our Prime Minister and on other world leaders to take urgent action to prevent climate change pushing people deeper into poverty - Sign here.

2. Globally, if food waste was a country, it would be the third top carbon emitter after USA and China. Sign the Change.org
petition asking UK supermarkets to tackle the food waste their policies cause in their supply chains.

3. Double the impact of your money and help prevent Malaria in Nigeria as Christian Aid's Christmas appeal is matched funded by UK Aid this year.

This powerful film explores the issues of an industry built on exploitation: from the cotton production and garment workers producing clothes to the impact it is having on the environment and culture. It makes us ask questions about our consumption and challenges all we thought we knew about the industry. Following the film we there will be an exciting panel to engage in conversation with. Tickets: £9 / £7 concessions. For more information, and booking click: here // or check it out on facebook: here

3. Global Day of Action for the Climate, Sunday, 29 November.

As world leaders meet in Paris for global climate talks, people across the world will be gathering in their tens of thousands to march for climate action. Join CAFOD and other Climate Coalition members at the London People's Climate March for a fun, family-friendly day, standing in solidarity with the communities most affected by a changing climate.
