Our GET Sported summer camps reached over 472 children, with 111 bibles given out and 125 choosing to follow Jesus. It was a full packed summer, with Bath camps reaching a new record of over 150 children a day.

Here are a few testimonies from Leaders and Young Leaders:

“ I realised that children really do have childlike faith and that they are ready to ask God to see pictures and visions. It was amazing hearing how God was revealing himself to the kids and how they knew what he was saying. Praise God! It was encouraging hearing how the kids had their own personal faith and the way they understood the curriculum in a very real way.”
“4 children prayed the salvation prayer to become a ‘friend of Jesus’ then got a bible to take away.”
“This camp felt different to previous other camps. The kids really started speaking freely which was really inspiring.”

Something NEW: Cricket specific camps

For the first time ever we ran a cricket specific camp “GET Serious Cricket” which ran alongside the GET Sported camps. This reached 67 children with 22 children giving their lives to Jesus and 13 taking bibles home. Our coaches were fantastic at creating and delivering a cricket coaching progam that linked to the camps curriculum sharing the Gospel in a cricket-relevant way.



We’ve kicked off… The Rugby World Cup (RWC) is here. Many of our teams, other churches and sports ministries around the country are using the RWC as opportunities for outreach. The Bath team put on a men’s breakfast – (Men United) and had ex Fijian rugby player Emori Katalau come and share his testimony. The Bath team has also made their Saturday morning coaching RWC themed incorporating high quality rugby coaching. Similarly the GET Sported camps during the October half term are harnessing the fever of RWC.
In addition, many of our teams are offering school assemblies RWC related and also ‘The Games’ – (a whole day of fun and games featuring a variety of school subjects such as drama, PE, RE etc themed around the story of David and Goliath).

A few teams also have lined up a ‘touch rugby tournament’ as an outreach to share a testimony half way through.
Many individuals, teams and churches around the country are putting on screening events whether that is in a pub, rugby club or just in their own home. As many people zone in to watch some of the games what a great opportunity it is to build relationships and to share life with people. In addition ‘ENGAGE’ have provided access to a whole hub of resources from videos of player’s testimonies to information to running other outreach events. Engage in partnership with many other sports ministries have released ‘The Game of Life’ to resource people to successfully run missional activities around the RWC.

Over the summer we saw young leaders leading children to Jesus on our GET Sported camps and living out 1 Timothy 2:4 –setting an example to others on camp. We saw a phenomenal growth in our young leaders’ confidence, practical leadership skills and spiritual maturity. It is so brilliant to have teenagers coming and serving year after year on our camps, this is what some of them got out of it:

Youth Sport Leadership

We have just launched the start of the Youth Sport Leadership for this academic year and we have record numbers. We had our first huddle with the Bath and Frome young leaders and it was great to see so many attend those with and without faith and of a variety of ages. We learnt the core building blocks of the Youth Sport Leadership course (faith, character, skill and mission) through experiential games and discovery bible studies. To celebrate the fever of the rugby world cup – we finished with a touch rugby tournament.
 


A few of our teams helped run community events featuring sports ministry. In Plymouth each year the team have been organising a free community family fun day with the help of their local church. This year 400 took part over the afternoon. The team was supported by a small group of dedicated church volunteers they focused on showing God’s love for the community while building great relationships. They offered a BBQ and lots of fun activities. This year they were challenged by storms but by noon prayers pushed the clouds away from the park enabling them to have a fantastic day. Fathers and sons joined in to play football as well as Danish long ball. There was a fantastic bungee run and an assault course. Later on the children released slingshot water balloons at young leaders and the event ended with the annual family tug of war.

In Chippenham churches organised a ‘party in the park.’ The team ran the sports events, so that passers by doing their shopping in the town on a Saturday could see and join in. They offered a multi-sports relay race, cricket, baseball and football. Many onlookers fancied some competition and ended up trying to ‘out-do’ their mates. It was a great event connecting with many families who got involved in the sports activities. The council saw the work the Chippenham team was doing and following the event have offered them funding.
