From Fr Richard McKay:
Borderlands Wins £48,254 to Fund Mentors and Friends of Refugees and Asylum-Seekers
All of us at Borderlands wish to thank all those who have supported us from around the diocese and helped us to receive the votes needed to gain this award.
Not only will it fund vital work in helping our refugee brothers and sisters to adapt to our complex society and so live more creative and integrated lives among us, but this People
Project has provided an opportunity to spread the word that ‘Refugees are welcome here’ and they do have friends in this society which comes across so often as hostile to them.
That we gained so many votes illustrates that there is in fact great concern in our society for these our gifted, courageous and vulnerable brothers and sisters who come to us seeking safety, freedom and hope.
As Chair of Borderlands Charity as well as parish priest of St Nicks I wish to thank all our members, volunteers and staff members who worked so hard to make this achievement possible. I wish again to thank all those around our diocese who have and are supporting Borderlands as we seek to live up to the challenge of this Jubilee Year of Mercy by ‘welcoming the stranger’
