This summer, we continue to see the marks of deep divisions among some in our communities, centred on issues of migration and how we respond to people who are seeking sanctuary in this country.

This newsletter highlights a remarkable story from last summer, as well as practical tips and suggestions for how we can approach similar difficult conversations and situations. It also shares an upcoming opportunity to put these insights into practice at our next Listening Space.

Following the tragic stabbings in Southport, a list of spaces to target was circulated. The Abdullah Quilliam Mosque was top of the list.

The response of Imam Adam Kelwick and the community that day, and since then, illustrates the power of hospitality, kindness and dialogue.

Join us for our next Listening Space

With living costs, service demand and temporary accommodation on the rise, we’ll be discussing questions like:
  • How do we all experience homelessness?
  • Who is responsible for addressing the issue?
  • Is homelessness a choice?

With guest speaker Mick Connolly, soup and bread meal, and facilitated discussion. All opinions and experiences are welcome. The goal is to build understanding and awareness of different viewpoints, not to reach an agreement.
